Pre and Post Punch Limits

Unlike the Lockout Grace Period and Warning Grace Period parameters, the Pre Punch Limit and Post Punch Limits are not based on scheduled in and out times, but rather when employees punch in or out for an unscheduled shift. The Pre and Post Punch Limits are only applicable if the work rule allows for unscheduled punches. If Pre and Post Punch Limits are defined, when employees punch in or out,

RMS

searches the time frame established by the Pre and Post Punch Limits to determine if there is a scheduled shift. If there is no scheduled shift within the time frame, employees are allowed to punch in or out. If there is a scheduled shift within the time frame, the standard punch validation process applies:

RMS

checks to see if the employees are in the Lockout Grace Period or Warning Grace Period. For more information on how the rule parameters are applied, see Punch validation workflow.

The graphic below displays an example of Pre and Post Punch Limits applied to an In Punch Schedule Lockout, Allow Unscheduled work rule that has both Lockout Grace Periods and Warning Grace Periods defined. The Pre and Post Punch Limits that are set to 240 minutes (4 hours). The employee punches in at 03:45.

RMS

detects that the employee is scheduled for a shift at 08:00 the next morning. Because the Post Punch Limit reaches into the Lockout Grace Period - Pre Schedule, the employee is allowed to punch in.
