Employee Points

Employee Points rules assess points to an employee when employee punches are outside of the established parameters. These rules are part of Attendance Point Tracking which is a process for recording and reporting attendance infractions. Employee Points work rules and Employee Event work rules determine attendance infractions by comparing discrepancies between employee's schedules and their actual time worked. This process is known as "exception reporting" and tracks such infractions as absenteeism, tardiness, early arrival, late departure, long breaks, meals, or other attendance events that might be important to an organization.

The Employee Points work rule type includes the following work rules:

Missing Punch Rule

Description

Adds points for a missing punch.

ParametersParameterDescription
Check Manual Punches

If the check box is selected, punches that have been manually entered by a manager are counted as missed punches.

Points

Number of points to assign for the missed punch.

Points Group

A numeric group identifier that can be used to restrict event rules to specific points or sets of points.

Punch Type

The type of punch that the system should check for. Options include:

  • In
  • Break
  • Back
  • Out

Long Shift

Description

Assesses points if the shift duration is longer than the scheduled duration by a specified amount.

Note: The shift must match a scheduled shift, as well as fall outside the specified parameters, before points are added.

ParametersParameterDescription
The following parameters determine whether a shift is matched to the schedule:
Grace Post-Schedule End

Number of minutes, after a shift ends, that an employee can punch OUT and still have the shift match the schedule.

For example, if the grace period is 60 mins. and an employee punches OUT 65 mins. after their shift ends, the shift will not be matched. If they punch OUT 55 mins. after their shift ends, points are added if the punches fall outside the other parameters.

Grace Post-Schedule Start

Number of minutes, after a shift starts, that an employee can punch IN and still have the shift match the schedule.

For example, if the grace period is 60 mins. and an employee punches IN 65 mins. after their shift starts, the shift will not be matched. If they punch in IN 50 mins. after their shift starts, points are added if the punches fall outside the other parameters.

Grace Pre-Schedule Start

Number of minutes before a shift starts, that an employee can punch IN and still have the shift match the schedule.

For example, if the grace period is 60 mins. and an employee punches IN 65 mins. befoire their shift starts, the the shift will not be matched. If they punch IN  55 mins. before their shift starts, the shift is matched, and points are added if the punches fall outside the other parameters.

Grace Pre-Schedule End

Number of minutes before a shift ends, that an employee can punch OUT and still have the shift match the schedule.

For example, if the grace period is 30 mins. and an employee punches OUT 35 mins. before their shift ends, the shift will not be matched. If they punch OUT 25 mins. before their shift ends, the shift is matched, and points are added if the punches fall outside the other parameters.

Max Shift Length Over

Maximum length of time an employee can work after their shift ends, and still have the shift match the schedule.

For example, if the maximum shift length over is 60 mins. and an employee works 9.5 hours (or 90 mins. over their scheduled shift), the shift will not be matched.

Min. Shift Length Under

Minimum length of time an employee can work and still have a shift match the schedule.

For example, if the minimum shift length under is 60 mins. and an employee works 6.5 hours (or 90 mins. less than their scheduled shift), the shift will not be matched.

The following parameters determine how points are assessed:
Minutes Over Limit

Number of minutes that an employee can work over their scheduled shift length, before points are assessed.

Points

Number of points to assign if the shift is matched to the schedule and falls outside the other parameters.

Points Group

A numeric group identifier that can be used to restrict event rules to specific points or sets of points.

Use Actual Punch Time

If the checkbox is selected, the system will use the employee's actual punch time, rather than rounding.

Verify Job

If the check box is selected, the shift will not be approved if it does not match the scheduled job.
