Schedule Lunch

The Schedule Lunch work rule type provides flexibility in determining how employees' shifts should be adjusted for a lunch breaks. It includes the following work rules:

Lunch Adjust End Time

Description

Adds a lunch break adjustment to the end of a scheduled shift and extends the End Time of a shift by the length of the break.

Tips

  • Use this work rule if you want to see employees' breaks added to the end of their shifts.
  • This rule is typically used for shifts that are shorter than a full shift.
  • This rule is typically used for unpaid breaks.
Example(s)

Using the Lunch Adjust End Time work rule, if an hours adjustment of 0.5 hours is applied to 12:00-to-18:00 shift, the End Time of the shift appears as 18:30 in scheduling screens.

Hours Adjustment

Length of the break, in hours.

Example: If employees require a 30 minute lunch break, enter "0.5" in this field.

Minimum Hours Worked

Minimum number of hours for which employees must be scheduled to receive this break.

Example: If employees must be scheduled for a minimum of 8 hours to qualify for a specified break (that is, Hours Adjustment), enter "8" in this field.

Lunch Simple Adjustment

Description

Adds a lunch break adjustment to a scheduled shift. The End Time of the shift is not adjusted.

Note: On the scheduling screens, the negative adjustment appears when you hover over the coffee cup icon ( ).

Tips

Use this rule with a paid lunch when you want the scheduled hours for the job to reflect a reduction in the scheduled productive time, but you still want the employee schedule shift times to reflect productivity and paid break.

Example(s)

Using the Lunch Simple Adjustment work rule, if a break adjustment of 0.5 hours is applied to 12:00-to-18:00 shift, there is no change to the End Time of the shift. When you hover the pointer over the coffee cup icon ( ), the hover text appears as "Adjustment: -0.50."

Lunch Start Time and Length

Description

Adds a break length per shift based on the Start Time and the length (total hours scheduled) of the shift.

Note: Break lengths are based on scheduled, not net hours. Schedule times are adjusted according to the break lengths.

Tips
  • Use this rule when you want to configure multiple paid or unpaid break lengths per shift based on:
    • The total hours scheduled during shifts.
    • The Start Time of shifts. 
  • Use multiple rule items when addressing multiple break levels at a company.
Example(s)Your company has multiple breaks levels. Employees earn different break lengths based on the total hours they work or when their shifts start. To accommodate these various types of breaks, you can add several Lunch Start Time and Length rule items to a rule set. These break levels might include the following:
  • No break for shift lengths of 1 minute to 5 hours and 30 minutes.
  • A 1-hour break for shift lengths of 5 hours 31 minutes to 9 hours.
  • A 1.5-hour break for shift lengths of 9 hours and 1 minute to 24 hours.
  • A 1-hour break for an 8-hour shift that starts between 10:00 and 11:59.
  • A 1.5-hour break for an 8-hour shift that starts after 12:00.

Adjust End Time

Whether the End Time of a shift is adjusted when the rule is applied:

  • If selected, the lunch break adjustment appears at the end of a shift and extends the End Time of a shift by the length of the break.
  • If cleared, the lunch break adjustment is deducted from the shift, and the End Time of the shift is not adjusted. The negative adjustment appears when you hover over the coffee cup icon () on the scheduling screens.

Break Length

Length of the break, in hours.

Earliest Start TimeEarliest time a shift can start after which the rule is applied.
Latest Start TimeLatest time a shift can start after which the rule is applied.
Maximum Shift LengthMaximum shift length that must be scheduled for the rule to apply.
Minimum Shift LengthMinimum shift length that must be scheduled for the rule to apply.
