Earning Rate

Earning Rate work rules determine the rate at which the earning is paid.

The Earning Rate work rule type includes the following work rules:

Accrual Transfer Rate

Description

Calculates an earning rate based on a cost accrual divided by an hours accrual. By dividing the amount earned by the number of hours that went into the accrual, you can determine the rate at which the accrual was paid out.

Description

Sets the earning rate according to the home job pay rate.

FSLA Earning Rate

Description

Calculate FLSA regular rates of pay for employees. The FLSA Earning Rate work rule, which assigns rates based on the FLSA rate for the week, is calculated using the following formula:

Total Pay / Total Hours = Regular Rate of Pay

The FLSA Earning Rate can be applied to an earning and then configured for users' Prompt For Fixed Earning work rule.

Note: This rule will give an error if it is run on an earning where the type is marked as include in average wage calcs.

Calculate Over Pay Period

If the check box is selected, the rate is calculated over the pay period.

Factor

Factor to apply to the earning. Earning total dollars is calculated as Hours X Rate X Factor.

Min Wage Per Shift

If the check box is selected, the greater of hourly rate or minimum wage is applied against each shift, rather than the average rate of all shifts worked.

Earning Fixed Rate

Description

Designate an earning to be paid at a fixed rate of pay per hours worked. This work rule can be used in situations where employees need to be paid at a fixed hourly rate that is different than their usual rate.

Example(s)

A senior employee is offered an additional $1.00 per hour for hours spent training a new hire. The manager would apply the Earning Fixed Rate Work Rule to add the extra $1.00 per hour earning, so the employee is correctly paid.

A new hire is offered a rate of $16.00 per hour. The rate will kick in only after the new hire has completed a 22 hour orientation, for which the employee will only make $11.00 per hour. The manager can apply this work rule and remove the work rule after the required orientation hours have been met.

Home Department Earning Rate

Description

Regular rate for the home department is set according to home job pay rate. This rate is calculated by multiplying the Home Job Pay Rate by the Rate Factor.

Jobs outside of the home department will use the property default rates.

Contract Daily Earning Rate

Description

Set the home job Daily Rate for contract employees. The calculation for the rate is:

(Weekly Contract / Days Per Week) x Hourly Rate x Rate Factor

Average Day Over Last X Weeks Worked

Description

Computes daily rate based on average day over last X weeks worked.

Earning Override Job Rate

Description

If an employee makes less than minimum wage, this work rule overrides the job rate and applies a factor on that new rate for specific earnings.

Override Rate

The new hourly rate to be paid as the override amount.

If the Use Minimum Wage check box is selected, the new rate will be equal to the minimum wage.

Factor Rate

Description

Apply a Factor to specified earnings.

Use Home Job for Base Rate

If the check box is selected, the home job rate will be used as the earning base rate, rather than the earning job rate.


Prior Balances Rate

Description

Configure earning rate based on a rate derived from prior accrual balances.

Note: This rule will only work with pay period based accruals. If the employee earning passed in does not have the same type as the earning types configured in the rule, the employee earning is passed to the earning job rate rule.
