Copying a Dataset/Budget

Copying datasets/budgets can save time and/or preserve data for reference purposes. You can copy one full dataset or you can add a second dataset and copy specific periods from one dataset and different periods from another dataset. For example, you can copy periods 1-9 from the first dataset and periods 10-12 from the second dataset. If the end period for dataset 1 overlaps with the start period for dataset 2, the overlapping periods will be summed. In essence, you are merging two datasets into one new dataset.

To create a new budget by copying existing datasets:

  1. Choose Copy Dataset from the Utilities menu.
  2. Choose the appropriate Year and Type of the dataset you wish to copy (From Dataset).
  3. Select Add 2nd Dataset if desired and complete Steps a-c. If you do not select Add 2nd Dataset, proceed to Step 4.
  4. Select the type of dataset from the Type 2 drop-down.
  5. Select the end period for Dataset 1.
  6. Select the start period for Dataset 2.
  7. Choose the appropriate Year and Type of the dataset you wish to create (To Dataset).
  8. Click OK. The new dataset will be named using the year and type that you designated in To Dataset (i.e. 2005 Original).
