The Timeline Scheduling screen comprises two main sections:
- Operations section – At the top of the screen, this section contains controls, menus, and search fields that allow you to schedule labor and change screen views.
- Scheduling section – Under the operations section, the scheduling section consists of a left pane and a schedule pane (or panes, if you are using dual-schedule view).
- Left pane – Depending on your settings, this pane can contain a list of employees, jobs, statistics, or work content.
- Schedule pane – This pane displays a schedule in a calendar format. Shifts appear as bars in line with their corresponding employees, jobs, or statistics. The position and length of the shift bar depend on the start and end time of the shift.
When you first open the Timeline Scheduling screen, a single timeline view opens with the Job view selected.

Add Shift | Opens the Add Shift dialog box. For more information see Add Shift dialog box - field descriptions. | |

Gear | Opens a drop-down menu to select the following: - Copy Schedules – Click to open the Copy Schedules dialog box. Use this option to copy an existing schedule from one planning period to another. For more information, see Copying schedules.
- Clear Schedules – Clears all schedules. After selecting this option, a confirmation dialog box appears to verify that you want to clear all schedules. For more information, see Clearing schedules.
- Clear Shifts – Clears all shifts. After selecting this option, a confirmation dialog box appears to verify that you want to clear all shifts. For more information see Clearing shifts.
- Recalculate Shifts – Recalculates shifts and applies any changes made to a configuration. For more information, see Recalculate Shifts dialog box – field descriptions.
- Generate Schedules – Open the Generate Schedules dialog box. For more information, see the Generate Schedules dialog box - field descriptions.
- Restore Auto Schedule – Reverts back to the autoschedule. This option is useful if you generate schedules, make changes, and then want to restore the autoschedule. For more information, see Restore Auto Schedules dialog box – field descriptions.
- Redistribute Work Content – Creates planned shifts based on the work content in the Work Content view. For more information, see Using the Work Content view.
| If you clear all schedules using the Clear Schedules option, this action cannot be undone. If you clear all shifts using the Clear Shifts option, this action cannot be undone. The Recalculate Shifts option is used mainly by UniFocus Support and Implementation.

View Options |
Refresh | Refreshes the views in the Timeline Scheduling screen. | This feature is helpful if you have added or edited many shifts and want to ensure that you are viewing the most current schedule that has been updated with all of your changes. |
Top | Opens drop-down menu to select the following: - Job View – Select to display the list of jobs in the left pane.
- Employee View – Select to display the list of employees in the left pane.
- Show Statistics – Select to display statistics in the left pane. Each statistic type is associated with a group of jobs. Click the triangle to open the list of jobs associated with the statistic type.
Statistics types include:- System Planned Hours – Projected hours, or the total of all system planned shifts.
- Manager's Planned Hours – Total of all manager planned shifts.
- Scheduled Hours – Shift hours assigned to employees for the scheduled for period – assigned to employees
- System Planned Coverage – Number of employees for each hour of the day called for by the system plan.
- Manager's Planned Coverage – Number of employees for each hour of the day called for by the manager plan
- Scheduled Coverage – Number of employees scheduled for each hour of the day.
- Coverage Percent – Percentage of the system planned hours for the day that are covered by the schedule.
- Work Content View – Select to display the undistributed work content required to service an event.
- Workflow View – Select to display how work is distributed to the manager planned shifts.
When using single-timeline view, this drop-down menu allows you to select the view you see in the scheduling section. When using dual-timeline view, use this drop-down menu to select the view for the top panes in the scheduling section. | The Work Content view applies only to event-related job standard types. |
Bottom | Opens drop-down menu to select the following: - Hide – If using dual-pane schedule view, select to hide bottom pane and return to single-pane schedule view.
- Job View – Select to display the list of jobs in the left pane.
- Employee View – Select to display the list of employees in the left pane.
- Show Statistics – Select to display statistics in the left pane. Each statistic type is associated with a group of jobs. Click the triangle to open the list of jobs associated with the statistic type.

Zoom slider | Slider to zoom in and zoom out of the calendar. - To zoom in, move the slider to the right.
- To zoom out, move the slider to the left.

Select Jobs and Dates |
Job selection | Opens the Labor Selector dialog box. Use this dialog box to filter what types of job and employee groupings appear in the left pane. For more information, see Labor Selector dialog box - field descriptions. | |
Calendar selection | Opens drop-down menu to select the date range that appears in the schedule pane. | |
Scheduling section
You use the scheduling section to schedule labor and view work content. This section contains two main panes: the left pane and the schedule pane. If you are using dual-timeline view, there is a left and schedule pane for each view.

Left pane(s) | Depending on your selected view, this pane displays : - Jobs – List of jobs.
- Employees – List of employees
- Statistics – Statistics for job groups.
- Work Content – Distributed and undistributed work required to complete an event.
- Workflow – Workflow relative to planned shifts.
To sort the information in this pane by either ascending or descending order, do one of the following: - Click the header.
- Hover the pointer to the far right of the column header and select either Sort Ascending or Sort Descending.

Schedule pane(s) | This pane displays the timeline schedule for the selected view in the left pane. The appearance of the calendar in this schedule pane depends on the zoom magnification. If the zoom slider is moved all the way to the left (zoomed out), the calendar displays each day as a separate entry. If the zoom slider is moved all the way to the right (zoomed in), you see an hourly breakdown of each day. Shifts and undistributed work content appear as bars on the schedule.
